Hollywood’s Elite Clash for Glory at Sunday’s Star-Studded Golden Globes

The champagne will flow and the stars will align in Beverly Hills this Sunday as the 81st Golden Globes kick off Hollywood’s 2026 awards season with a glittering, high-stakes ceremony. The night promises a fierce battle for trophies, with the dark comedy “One Battle After Another” leading a formidable pack of film nominees.

The Contenders: A-List Showdowns
Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, and a constellation of Hollywood’s biggest names are set to compete for honors at the Globes, a pivotal and glamorous pit stop on the road to the Academy Awards in March. DiCaprio’s film, “One Battle After Another,” distributed by Warner Bros., arrives as the frontrunner with multiple nominations. The film is a genre-bending dark comedy about a disillusioned former revolutionary (DiCaprio) forced back into action to save his daughter. His acclaimed co-stars—Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti, and Teyana Taylor—also received individual acting nominations, making the film a powerhouse across categories.

“One Battle” will face off in the coveted Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category against stiff competition. This includes Chalamet’s energetic table tennis biopic “Marty Supreme,” the acclaimed suburban satire “Bugonia,” and other crowd-pleasers.

The race for Best Motion Picture – Drama is equally intense. It features “Jay Kelly,” with George Clooney delivering a poignant performance as an aging actor reflecting on his legacy, alongside Adam Sandler as his loyal manager. The category is stacked with heavyweights: Guillermo del Toro’s haunting reimagining of “Frankenstein,” the chilling supernatural thriller “Sinners,” and “Hamnet,” the emotionally powerful story of William Shakespeare’s family.

Host with the Most: Nikki Glaser Promises a Fun, Fearless Night
Returning for her second stint as host, comedian Nikki Glaser has vowed a celebratory and sharp—but not cruel—evening. “They shouldn’t be worried because I really have made this set so that it doesn’t ruin anyone’s night,” Glaser assured, addressing Hollywood’s nervous A-listeners who recall past hosts’ biting roasts. “I don’t think I’m going to have to avoid anyone at the after-party.” The ceremony, broadcast live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, will honor both film and television, and will introduce a new category for Best Podcast.

Television and New Frontiers
On the television side, HBO’s luxurious vacation mystery “The White Lotus” (set in a new Japanese location) leads the nominations, followed closely by Netflix’s critically adored limited series “Adolescence,” a gripping drama about a 13-year-old girl accused of a shocking crime. The new podcast category marks the Globes’ evolving recognition of digital media, with nominees including popular shows like “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard,” “Call Her Daddy,” and “The Mel Robbins Podcast.”

A Reformed Awards Show with Global Reach
The Globes, determined by a voting body of over 300 international entertainment journalists, have undergone significant reforms in recent years following criticism over ethics and diversity. While Globes voters have no direct influence on the Oscars (chosen by nearly 9,000 film industry professionals), a win here provides crucial momentum and visibility for awards campaigns.

This year’s nominations notably highlight global cinema, with standout international films like the Norwegian family drama “Sentimental Value,” Iranian master Jafar Panahi’s “It Was Just an Accident,” and the Brazilian political thriller “The Secret Agent” earning well-deserved spots.

The Acting Battles Royale
Beyond the top film categories, the acting races are brimming with talent. The Best Actor in a Drama field sees DiCaprio, Clooney, and Michael B. Jordan (“Sinners”) in a tense showdown. Meanwhile, Chalamet, Dwayne Johnson (for his transformative role in wrestling drama “The Smashing Machine”), and Adam Sandler will duel in the comedy/musical actor race. On the women’s side, nominees like Jessie Buckley (“Hamnet”), Ariana Grande, and Cynthia Erivo (both for the musical “Wicked: For Good”) showcase a stunning range of performances.

As the red carpet rolls out on Sunday, all eyes will be on Beverly Hills to see which stars and stories will claim the first major prizes of the season, setting the tone for the cinematic battles to come.
