Veteran Bollywood Icon Dharmendra Hospitalised in Mumbai for Routine Check-up

Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood superstar Dharmendra was admitted to the city’s Breach Candy hospital earlier this week for a comprehensive, pre-scheduled health assessment. According to a source close to the family, the 89-year-old actor is in stable condition and the hospitalization is purely precautionary.

The insider clarified that the actor was admitted on Thursday for a series of routine tests. “Since the results would take some time to arrive, the family decided that it would be better for him to stay there until all the routine check-ups are done properly,” the source told PTI on Saturday. They further emphasized, “He is old and needs proper attention from the doctors. There’s nothing to worry about.”

A Look Back at Recent Health and Resilience

This hospitalization comes just a few months after the actor underwent a successful eye graft surgery in April of this year. True to his indomitable spirit, Dharmendra was seen leaving the hospital at that time with a bandage over his right eye, confidently engaging with the waiting paparazzi.

In a moment that reassured his countless fans, he had declared, “Abhi bohot dum hai, abhi bhi bohot jaan hai… Meri aankh mein graft hua hai (I’m still very strong and full of life. I had an eye graft surgery). Love you audience. I’m strong.”

An Enduring Legacy and Upcoming Projects

Dharmendra, affectionately known as the ‘He-Man’ of Hindi cinema, has been a beloved figure in Indian film for over six decades. With a career spanning more than 300 films, he has delivered timeless classics like SholayBandiniSatyakam, and Chupke Chupke.

Even at 89, his passion for acting remains undimmed. His most recent appearance was a special cameo in the Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon-starrer romantic comedy, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.

Fans have much to look forward to from the veteran actor. He is slated to appear in filmmaker Sriram Raghavan’s highly anticipated war drama, Ikkis. The film, based on the life of Param Vir Chakra recipient Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, will see Dharmendra in a pivotal role alongside newcomers Agastya Nanda (Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson) and Simar Bhatia (Akshay Kumar’s niece), and is scheduled for a December 2024 release.

Additionally, Dharmendra will feature in the family-drama thriller Maine Pyaar Kiya Phir Se, a project that sees him sharing the screen with actor Arbaaz Khan.

The news of his hospitalization has sparked an outpouring of concern and well-wishes from fans and colleagues across the industry, all hoping for the swift and good health of the cherished star.
