KABUL : The United Nations has allocated $16.6 million to assist vulnerable communities in Afghanistan, particularly in areas affected by ongoing drought, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced.
According to an OCHA statement, the funding will be directed towards northern and northeastern provinces of Afghanistan, where the effects of drought continue to severely impact livelihoods and basic services.
The funds will be utilized by five UN agencies, six international NGOs, and ten Afghan organizations to implement targeted interventions across key sectors including:
Food security
Agriculture and livestock
Access to clean drinking water
Health services
OCHA specified that $10 million of the total amount is being sourced from the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF), while the remaining $6.6 million comes from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
The funding aims to alleviate the immediate needs of drought-affected families and prevent further deterioration of humanitarian conditions across the targeted regions.
