A Landmark for Afghan Cricket: Afghanistan Awarded Hosting Rights for 2025 U-19 Asia Cup

In a decision that signals a new era for the sport in the nation, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially awarded the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) the hosting rights for the 2025 Men’s U-19 Asia Cup. This landmark announcement marks the first time Afghanistan will host this prestigious youth tournament, a significant milestone in the country’s remarkable cricketing journey.

While the event will be hosted by the ACB, it is scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from December 12 to 21, 2025. This pragmatic approach leverages the UAE’s world-class infrastructure and logistical capabilities to ensure a seamless and high-quality tournament, a model successfully employed by other cricket boards in the past.

A Testament to Growth and Resilience

The hosting rights are more than just an administrative assignment; they are a powerful endorsement of Afghanistan’s rapid ascent in the cricketing world. From a team that once competed in lower-tier divisions to a formidable force that consistently challenges established cricketing nations, Afghanistan’s story is one of resilience and raw talent.

In an official statement, the ACB highlighted that securing the hosting rights is a “historic achievement” that “reaffirms its emergence as a rising cricket nation in Asia and underscores its commitment to the sport’s development.” This move recognizes not only the nation’s organizational capability but also its expanding talent base and its growing influence within the global cricket community.

The Crucial Role of the U-19 Platform

The U-19 Asia Cup has long been celebrated as one of the ACC’s most critical developmental initiatives. It serves as a premier launching pad for the continent’s most promising young cricketers, offering them a first taste of high-stakes international competition. The tournament has been instrumental in unearthing future stars who have gone on to become pillars of their senior national teams.

ACC President, Mohsin Naqvi, welcomed the partnership, stating, “ACC is delighted to partner with ACB for the DP World Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025. This tournament plays a vital role in shaping Asia’s next generation of cricketers, and we are confident that ACB will deliver an exceptional event that celebrates excellence, unity, and the future of Asian cricket.”

A Proud Moment and a Strategic Vision

For the Afghan cricket community, the announcement is the culmination of years of dedication. ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf described it as “a proud and historic moment for Afghanistan Cricket.”

He elaborated, “Securing the hosting rights… is not only a recognition of ACB’s growing stature within Asian cricket but also a reflection of our strong commitment to ensuring the future of cricket in Afghanistan. We are nurturing a new generation of players whose talent continues to shine on the global stage. Hosting this event in the UAE will allow us to offer world-class facilities, international exposure, and a memorable experience for all participants.”

Looking Ahead: The 2025 Tournament

The DP World Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025 will feature the top youth teams from across the continent, including traditional powerhouses like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, all vying for the regional crown. The ten-day event promises to be a thrilling showcase of emerging talent.

This tournament represents a crucial step for Afghanistan, not just in administering a world-class event, but in solidifying its legacy. By providing a platform for its own U-19 squad to compete at home (in a neutral venue), Afghanistan is investing directly in its cricketing future, inspiring a new generation to pick up a bat and ball and dream of representing their nation on the international stage.
