Afghanistan U-19 Cricket Team Set for Crucial Subcontinental Tour in Preparation for World Cup

KABUL, October 23 – In a significant move to bolster their preparations for upcoming international competitions, the Afghanistan Under-19 cricket team is scheduled for an extensive tour of the subcontinent, which includes a competitive tri-series in India followed by a bilateral series in Bangladesh.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the fixtures in an official statement, highlighting a packed schedule designed to test the mettle of their emerging young talents.

Tri-Series in India: A Test Against Depth

The centerpiece of the tour is a One-Day International (ODI) tri-series hosted by India, featuring the Afghanistan U-19 squad against two formidable Indian sides: India U-19 ‘A’ and India U-19 ‘B’. The series is set to run from November 17 to November 30.

This unique format of facing two different Indian teams is a strategic masterstroke, offering the Afghan youngsters exposure to a wider pool of talent and varying playing styles within one of the world’s most robust cricketing systems.

Detailed Schedule:

  • November 19: Afghanistan U-19 vs. India U-19 ‘B’

  • November 21: Afghanistan U-19 vs. India U-19 ‘A’

  • November 25: Afghanistan U-19 vs. India U-19 ‘B’

  • November 27: Afghanistan U-19 vs. India U-19 ‘A’

The series will culminate in a grand finale on November 30, where the top two teams on the points table will compete for the championship.

Preceding Tour: Five-Match ODI Series in Bangladesh

Before heading to India, the Afghan colts will immediately engage in a five-match ODI series against Bangladesh U-19. This series, scheduled from October 28 to November 9, will serve as a critical warm-up, allowing the team to acclimatize to subcontinental conditions and fine-tune their combinations.

The back-to-back tours of Bangladesh and India represent one of the most challenging and comprehensive preparation schedules undertaken by an Associate nation’s youth team.

Strategic Importance for Future Stars

Cricket analysts view these tours as invaluable for the development of Afghanistan’s next generation of players. With the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup traditionally held in early 2025, these high-intensity matches against established cricketing powerhouses provide perfect game-time experience.

“These matches are not just about winning or losing,” a board official stated. “They are about building temperament, understanding pressure situations, and giving our future stars a platform to compete against the best. The experience gained in Bangladesh and India will be instrumental in their growth as they aim to make a mark on the global stage.”

The performances in these series will be closely watched by selectors and fans alike, as they often unveil the future heroes of Afghan cricket.
