Afghanistan’s Kourosh Rajabi Defeats Pakistan’s Bilal Hussain, Wins IFT Championship Belt in Lahore

Lahore witnessed a historic night for Afghan combat sports as Kourosh Rajabi of Afghanistan defeated Pakistan’s Bilal Hussain in the main event of the ninth round of the International Fighting Tournament (IFT). Rajabi secured the prestigious championship belt with a unanimous judges’ decision after three commanding rounds, cementing his status as one of the rising stars in the region.

The match carried high stakes, not only because of the title but also due to the heated pre-fight buildup. Hussain’s controversial remarks and provocative behavior in the days leading up to the clash had fueled tension between the rival camps, adding intensity to an already charged atmosphere. The packed Lahore venue echoed with chants from both Afghan and Pakistani fans, creating a fiery backdrop for the showdown.

Despite the pressure, Rajabi remained composed and showcased superior skill, footwork, and stamina. His tactical striking and controlled grappling exchanges left little room for doubt as the judges unanimously declared him the winner.

The evening was not just about Rajabi’s triumph. Ten Afghan fighters competed across different weight categories, with the majority securing decisive victories over their Pakistani counterparts. Their collective success enabled Team Afghanistan to clinch the overall team trophy, marking a double victory: the individual championship belt and the group championship title.

Afghanistan’s dominance in Lahore reflected not only technical prowess but also the unity and resilience of its athletes. Team coach and officials hailed the achievement as a turning point for Afghan mixed martial arts, noting that Afghan fighters are increasingly making their mark on the international stage despite limited resources and training facilities back home.

“This victory is not just mine; it belongs to Afghanistan,” Rajabi said after the fight, dedicating his win to the Afghan people. His words resonated deeply with supporters, who flooded social media platforms to celebrate the triumph as a symbol of national pride and international recognition.

The IFT competition, which has grown in popularity across South Asia, is regarded as a proving ground for emerging MMA fighters. Afghanistan’s strong showing in Lahore has sent a clear message: the country is becoming a serious contender in the region’s combat sports scene.

For many, Rajabi’s championship belt goes beyond sport—it stands as a beacon of hope and perseverance for Afghanistan’s younger generation. Amid challenges at home, the victory represents not only athletic excellence but also a reminder of the nation’s enduring spirit on the global stage.
