Abu Dhabi, December 2, 2025 – Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has officially withdrawn from next month’s Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, bringing an end to his 13-year association with the world’s most popular and lucrative T20 cricket league.
The 37-year-old explosive hitter, who has been a marquee name in the tournament since his debut in 2012, confirmed his decision in a personal statement released today. His pinnacle came in 2014 with Punjab Kings, where he amassed 552 runs at a stunning strike rate of 187.75, cementing his reputation as a global T20 superstar.
His exit follows a growing trend of veteran international stars reassessing their T20 league commitments. Last week, former South African captain Faf du Plessis also opted out of the IPL 2026 auctions, choosing instead to focus on his role in the Pakistan Super League. In a related move, West Indies powerhouse Andre Russell, while not entering the auction pool, has joined the coaching staff of his longtime franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders, signaling a potential transition into a mentorship role.
