India Bolsters Healthcare Lifeline to Afghanistan with Critical Medical Aid and Enhanced Cooperation

In a significant reaffirmation of its humanitarian commitment, India has dispatched a substantial consignment of vital medical supplies to Afghanistan, including cancer medicines, essential vaccines, and advanced diagnostic equipment. The delivery underscores India’s ongoing dedication to supporting the Afghan people amidst the country’s profound healthcare challenges.

The aid shipment features a state-of-the-art 128-slice CT scan machine, a critical tool for advanced medical imaging and diagnosis, alongside a larger consignment of medicines and vaccines. This initiative is part of a broader, sustained effort to provide humanitarian assistance and strengthen health infrastructure in Afghanistan.

The provision of aid was coordinated during an official visit by an Afghan delegation, led by Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, Afghanistan’s Minister of Public Health, who was invited to New Delhi by the Indian government. The visit, which took place on Tuesday, aimed to deepen health sector collaboration, facilitate the exchange of medical expertise, and align joint efforts to address Afghanistan’s pressing healthcare needs.

Following high-level talks, Jagat Prakash Nadda, India’s Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, announced the enhanced cooperation. In a post on social media platform X, Minister Nadda detailed the support, stating that India has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained humanitarian and healthcare cooperation, with a special emphasis on ensuring the long-term supply of essential medicines.

“We made a symbolic handover of cancer medicines and vaccines, reflecting India’s commitment to support the medical needs of the Afghan people,” Nadda wrote. “A larger consignment of medicines, vaccines, and a 128-slice CT scanner is also being dispatched to Afghanistan.”
