However, in the fast-paced, technology-driven 21st century, languages must do more than survive through poetry and storytelling — they must adapt and thrive in the digital world.
A New Environment for Linguistic Life
We now live in the age of the information revolution. High-speed internet, artificial intelligence, language models, apps, digital education, and content creation offer both new opportunities and serious challenges for language survival. Languages that fail to keep up risk falling into obscurity. Pashto must be part of this digital evolution.
Why Does Pashto Need Modern Technology?
1. Easier Access to Learning:
Developing educational apps, audiobooks, and online Pashto courses can encourage children, youth, and even adults to learn, appreciate, and take pride in their native language.
2. Standardization of the Language:
Technology enables the systematic development of spelling rules, grammar, and dictionaries. A standardized Pashto lexicon, spell-check tools, and reliable translation systems can elevate the language to global platforms.
3. Presence in the Global Digital Space:
If Pashto is equipped with appropriate software support, websites, and social media integration, it will find its rightful place among other world languages and won’t be left out of global discourse.
Challenges and Gaps
