A fresh trove of emails from the inbox of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has been made public, casting a stark light on the extraordinary scope of his connections within the highest echelons of global power. The correspondence, which includes exchanges with a former U.S. president’s adviser, a disgraced British royal, and a former Treasury Secretary, underscores the extensive and bipartisan nature of Epstein’s network.
This disclosure comes as the U.S. House of Representatives prepares to vote on a measure to compel the release of long-held evidence gathered by law enforcement on Epstein. This would include potentially revealing the identities of men suspected of participating in his alleged sex trafficking ring. While that political battle looms, the emails released this week have already provided unprecedented insight into Epstein’s world, prompting renewed scrutiny and denials from those named.
The documents, released by Congressional Democrats, span a decade from 2009 to 2019, the year Epstein died by suicide in a federal detention center while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The following are detailed accounts of some of the prominent figures featured in these communications.
1. Prince Andrew: A Royal Connection That Lingered
The emails directly challenge the official narrative from Buckingham Palace that contact between Epstein and Prince Andrew ceased definitively in 2010. Correspondence shows the relationship continued into 2011. In a March 4, 2011 email, Epstein wrote to the Duke of York with questions concerning their mutual associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, who was later convicted for her role in Epstein’s crimes.
Prince Andrew responded with clear apprehension, writing, “Please make sure that every statement or legal letter states clearly that I am not involved and that I knew and know nothing about any of these allegations. I can’t take any more of this my end.” Epstein’s reply two days later attempted to downplay the seriousness of the situation: “You ok? These stories are complete and utter fantasy.” This exchange occurred months after the royal family claimed the association had ended.
2. Steve Bannon: Exploring a Far-Right Alliance
The files reveal a substantive email correspondence in 2018 with Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist for President Donald Trump and a leading ideologue of the “America First” movement. In July of that year, Epstein positioned himself as a power broker, offering to help Bannon propagate his far-right political ideas across Europe.
“It’s doable, but time-consuming, there are many leaders of countries we can organise for you to have one-on-ones,” Epstein wrote. Bannon responded with keen interest: “Agree 100 per cent. How do I do that???” Epstein concluded, “We can talk about [it] at your convenience,” suggesting a planned collaboration.
3. Larry Summers: Casual Banter and Political Gossip
The emails also include a surprisingly casual exchange with Larry Summers, who served as Treasury Secretary under President Bill Clinton and as a top economic adviser to President Barack Obama. In an October 2017 email, Summers greeted Epstein with the quip, “How is life among the lucrative and louche?”
Epstein replied with a promise of salacious tales, writing, “When we meet I will endeavour to mesmerise you with stories of DC so wild!!!” Their discussion turned to President Trump, with Summers offering a critical assessment from his peers: “Hard to tell. General view [is] Donald is a clown, increasingly dangerous on foreign policy.” Over a year later, in December 2018, Epstein echoed this sentiment in another exchange, simply stating, “Trump — borderline insane.”
4. Kathryn Ruemmler: A Critical View from a Former Obama Official
Epstein maintained a lengthy email thread with Kathryn Ruemmler, who served as White House Counsel to President Obama until 2014. Their exchange, which lasted from 2014 to 2019, often focused on their shared contempt for Donald Trump.
In May 2016, as Trump secured the Republican nomination, Ruemmler wrote, “I am about to go on stage. The first part of my presentation is about Trump.” Epstein’s concise reply was, “Con man, says it all.” His critiques continued into his presidency; in August 2018, he wrote, “I know how dirty Donald is. my guess is that non lawyers ny biz people have no idea [sic].” By that December, his tone carried a note of warning: “You might want to tell your dem friends that treating Trump like a mafia don, ignores the fact that he has great dangerous power.“
A Network Under the Microscope
These emails collectively paint a picture of a man who, despite his criminal past, remained deeply embedded in circles of immense political and financial influence. The revelations have intensified calls for full transparency, ensuring that the scrutiny of Epstein’s powerful network and the pursuit of justice for his victims will continue.
