Japan Announces $19.5 Million in Additional Humanitarian Aid for Afghanistan
The Government of Japan has pledged $19.5 million in new humanitarian funding for Afghanistan, aimed at addressing urgent needs and supporting vulnerable populations. This allocation underscores Japan’s continued commitment to the Afghan people amid ongoing crises.
In an official statement released on X, the Japanese Embassy in Afghanistan announced: “We are pleased to confirm that the Government of Japan has decided to provide an additional $19.5 million in assistance to Afghanistan, focusing on critical humanitarian sectors and essential human needs.”
The Embassy further emphasized that the aid is intended to “make a tangible, positive difference in the lives of the most vulnerable and needy Afghans,” particularly women, children, and displaced communities.
According to the announcement, the funds will be distributed through trusted international channels, including United Nations agencies, other global humanitarian organizations, and Japanese non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating on the ground. This approach is designed to ensure effective and accountable delivery of assistance where it is most needed.
With this latest contribution, Japan’s total humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan since the change in administration in August 2021 has surpassed $549 million, reinforcing its position as a leading and steadfast donor to the country’s humanitarian response.
