Historical Artifacts from the Ahmad Shahi Era Discovered in Kandahar

Officials from the Information and Culture Department have announced the significant discovery of three historical artifacts dating back to the reign of Ahmad Shah Durrani, founder of the Durrani Empire. The items were unearthed during ongoing reconstruction work at the historical residence of Ahmad Shah Baba in the southern province of Kandahar.

Abdul Shakoor Shapand, head of the Art and Culture Department within the provincial Information and Culture directorate, informed media outlets today that the recovered artifacts include a stone lamp, an earthen lamp, and a metal chain. These objects are believed to have been used during the 18th century, offering a tangible connection to the domestic and cultural life of the period.

Shapand detailed that, following a careful preservation and cleaning process by specialists, the artifacts will be prepared for public display. They will be added to the collection in the small museum located within Ahmad Shah Baba’s house, where they will join other relics from the Ahmad Shahi period. This addition aims to enrich the narrative of the Durrani Empire’s founder and provide deeper insight into the material culture of his time.

The discovery has underscored the archaeological potential of the site. Shapand emphasized that the Department is treating the reconstruction project with the utmost seriousness, prioritizing the preservation of historical integrity while ensuring structural stability. He reiterated the department’s broader commitment to systematically protecting and rehabilitating Afghanistan’s historical sites, which serve as crucial pillars of the nation’s cultural heritage.

Kandahar, serving as the capital of the Durrani Empire, holds profound historical significance.
