KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – In a nail-biting final that went down to the last over, the Boost region has been crowned champion of the 14th National Disabled T20 Cricket Tournament, organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
The week-long tournament, a celebrated fixture in Afghanistan’s sporting calendar, showcased the exceptional talent and competitive spirit of athletes from five regional teams: Boost, Mes Aynak, Spin Ghar, Amu, and Band-i Amir. Held in the southern province of Kandahar, the event demonstrated the powerful role of sport in fostering inclusion and resilience.
The championship culminated in a high-stakes clash between finalists Boost and Mes Aynak. After winning the crucial toss, Boost elected to bat first, setting a formidable target. Their batsmen delivered a powerful performance, posting a challenging total of 175 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, Mes Aynak launched a courageous and determined chase. The match swung back and forth, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. Despite a valiant effort and a late surge, Mes Aynak’s innings concluded at 170 for 8, falling just five runs short of the target in a heart-stopping finish.
While Boost lifted the champion’s trophy, individual accolades highlighted the standout performances of the tournament. In a testament to his all-round leadership and skill, Jamil Shah, the captain of the runner-up Mes Aynak team, was deservedly named the Player of the Tournament. Adding to Mes Aynak’s pride, young talent Fareed was honored as the Young Player of the Event, signaling a promising future for the team.
An ACB spokesperson commended all participants, stating, “This tournament is a proud testament to the passion for cricket that runs deep in every corner of our nation. The skill, determination, and sportsmanship displayed by all athletes are truly inspiring. The ACB remains committed to supporting and promoting inclusive cricket programs for all.”
