HERAT CITY, Afghanistan (dawatmedia24)– A significant convoy of humanitarian aid from the Republic of Turkey, weighing 922 metric tons, has been received at the Roznak railway station in western Herat province, signaling continued international support for vulnerable communities across Afghanistan. The shipment, comprising essential food and non-food items, is slated for distribution to families affected by recent natural disasters and ongoing economic challenges.
The handover ceremony, held on Friday, was attended by senior officials from the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), the Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan, and representatives from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Commitment to Transparent Distribution
Hafiz Azizur Rahman, Deputy Head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, formally received the aid and emphasized the organization’s commitment to ensuring it reaches those most in need. “On behalf of the Afghan people, we express our profound gratitude to Turkey for this substantial support,” stated Rahman. “I want to assure everyone that this aid will be distributed to needy and vulnerable families across all provinces of the country in a completely transparent and judicious manner, following our standard humanitarian principles.”
A Pledge of Solidarity from Turkey
Addressing the gathering, Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan, Jang Onal, highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. “This shipment, containing 922 tons of vital supplies, is a testament to Turkey’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Afghanistan,” Ambassador Onal said. “It is intended to provide critical relief to our Afghan brothers and sisters who have been affected by devastating natural disasters and the harsh winter. Turkey will always stand by Afghanistan during these difficult times.”
The ambassador confirmed that the assistance includes staple food items to combat food insecurity, as well as non-food essentials such as winter clothing, blankets, and shelter materials, which are crucial for survival during the cold season.
International Coordination and Continued Support
The delivery also underscores the importance of international coordination. Ahmad Suliman, Vice President of the IFRC, praised the collaborative effort. “The efficient delivery of this aid through the Afghan Red Crescent Society demonstrates the strength of our global network,” Suliman remarked. “We commend Turkey’s generosity and the dedication of the ARCS staff and volunteers. The IFRC remains committed to supporting these life-saving efforts in Afghanistan.”
Echoing the ambassador’s sentiments, Sinan Ilhan, the Consul General of Turkey in Herat, reaffirmed his country’s long-term commitment. “This is not a one-time gesture,” Consul General Ilhan stated. “Turkey is dedicated to continuing its humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people. We are actively working on further initiatives to support recovery and resilience in the region.”
The arrival of this substantial aid package is expected to provide critical support to thousands of households, addressing immediate needs while the country grapples with a severe humanitarian crisis.
