Did Ronaldo give up his legendary shirt number to Joao Felix?

Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo sparked the curiosity of Al-Nassr fans and supporters after he appeared during his team’s training session wearing a shirt with a different number than his usual number.
The Portuguese international posted photos from Al-Nassr’s recent training session during the Austrian camp on his Instagram account, but he wasn’t wearing his legendary number 7 shirt.
Ronaldo wore a shirt bearing the number 9, confusing his fans and followers, some of whom believed that Ronaldo might have given up his historic number in favor of his compatriot Joao Felix, who previously wore the number with Atlético Madrid before moving to Chelsea.
Al-Nassr signed the Portuguese star from Chelsea on a contract that runs until 2027, to play alongside Ronaldo.
Ronaldo previously wore the number 9 for a few months during his early days with Real Madrid before taking the number 7 from Raúl. However, the “CR7” character has become an independent entity, forming part of the player’s commercial and media identity. Recently, in a move that surprised football fans, it has become impossible to print the Portuguese star’s name on Manchester United’s new official shirt for the 2025-26 season.
A Manchester United source confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that the issue is not an administrative decision by the club, but rather due to legal restrictions related to trademark rights.
Real Madrid, where Ronaldo has excelled for years and achieved historic records, is also facing the same problem.
