The European Union has announced an increase in its humanitarian assistance to families affected by the recent earthquake in Afghanistan.

In a statement shared on its official X account, the EU said:
“The EU humanitarian aid is on the ground in #Afghanistan. Our fourth EU-funded flight has delivered over 250 tonnes of essential supplies to those impacted by the recent earthquake, with more flights on the way.”

The aid flights have carried emergency relief items including tents, blankets, food, medical kits, and other vital supplies aimed at supporting thousands of families left homeless and vulnerable in the aftermath of the disaster.

The earthquake, which struck around three weeks ago, measured 6.0 in magnitude and affected several eastern and central provinces, including Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, Panjshir, and Nuristan. According to initial reports, Kunar province was the hardest hit, suffering the greatest loss of life and property damage.

The EU emphasized that it is working closely with humanitarian partners on the ground to ensure timely delivery of assistance to the most affected communities. The union also reiterated its long-term commitment to supporting the Afghan people in times of crisis.

This latest round of assistance comes in addition to ongoing EU-funded humanitarian operations in Afghanistan, which already address urgent needs arising from poverty, food insecurity, and natural disasters.
