Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, in a special meeting of the federal cabinet and state officials, issued an immediate implementation order for the deportation of Afghan refugees.
He stressed that the Islamabad government could no longer continue hosting Afghan immigrants and all responsible authorities should finalize and execute the practical plan of expulsion as soon as possible.
According to Geo News, Shahbaz Sharif said in this meeting:
“Pakistan has been host to millions of Afghan immigrants for years, but now our people are asking how long this situation will continue.” We cannot afford the economic, security and social burden of refugee presence any longer. »
He pointed out that, following border tensions and recent clashes between Pakistani forces and Taliban, the demand for the deportation of migrants by the public opinion of Pakistan has increased at an unprecedented rate.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister has instructed federal and state authorities to provide all the facilities necessary to phase out undocumented migrants.
According to reports, the decision includes those who:
They lack legal residence documents;
The validity period of their visa or immigration card has expired;
Or they have entered Pakistani soil through illegal passages.
Pakistan is planning to set up temporary detention centers to repatriate migrants to Afghanistan after identifying and registering information, government sources have said.
